Fulton-Montgomery CC bounced back to earn a split in a Saturday doubleheader against Mohawk Valley CC at Shuttleworth, dropping Game 1 before responding with an offensive surge in Game 2.
Game 1: Mohawk Valley 7, FMCC 5
The Raiders jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first and adding three more in the third to build a 5-1 advantage. Fulton-Montgomery responded with a strong second inning, plating three runs to take a brief 4-2 lead behind RBI efforts from Soichiro Hanawa and Christian LaFleche.
Mohawk Valley regained control in the third inning and added insurance runs in the fifth to go back in front 7-4. FMCC chipped away with a run in the fifth, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Hanawa led the Raiders with two hits and two RBIs, while Cheng En Cai and Tatsuki Yoshikawa each drove in a run. Cai went the distance on the mound, striking out eight over seven innings.
Game 2: FMCC 9, Mohawk Valley 5
Fulton-Montgomery answered in a big way in the nightcap, pounding out 13 hits in a 9-5 victory.
The Raiders set the tone early with two runs in the first and never looked back. After Mohawk Valley cut into the lead, FMCC responded with a four-run fifth inning to break the game open.
Cheng En Cai had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Po Ting Lin added three hits, including a double and triple, driving in three runs, while Kao Huai En and Connor Bentley each homered.
