The Fulton-Montgomery Community College baseball team opened its 2026 season on Thursday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to Cayuga Community College.
The Raiders fell 23-3 in the opener before coming up short in a much tighter 7-2 contest in Game 2.
Game 1 (5 innings)
Cayuga's offense came out swinging in the first game, scoring in every inning and erupting for 15 runs in the fifth to pull away for the run-rule victory. The Spartans totaled 14 hits, including five home runs, to power the win.
FMCC found some offense in the middle innings, highlighted by a two-run home run from Kao Huai En. Po Ting Lin added an RBI, while Cheng En Cai also recorded a hit.
On the mound, Cheng En Cai took the loss, working 3.1 innings in the season debut.
Game 2-Cayuga 7, FMCC 2
The Raiders responded with a much stronger effort in Game 2, jumping out to an early lead and battling into the late innings.
FMCC struck first in the opening frame, plating two runs to take a 2-0 advantage. Brendan O'Connell drove in a run, while Wataru Yamasaki added an RBI as part of the early scoring.
Cayuga chipped away with a run in the fourth and tied the game in the seventh before breaking it open in the ninth with a five-run inning.
Po Ting Lin delivered a strong performance on the mound for the Raiders, tossing 8.2 innings while allowing five runs and keeping FMCC in position to win deep into the game. KJ Constantino came on in relief in the ninth.
Offensively, the Raiders collected six hits, with Wataru Yamasaki and Po Ting Lin each recording two-hit games.
Despite the results, FMCC showed resilience in the nightcap after a tough opener and will look to build on that effort as the season continues.
